Overseas mobile payment transaction done via Chinese service provider Alipay surged 14 percent during the just-concluded 7-day Chinese National Day holiday in comparison with last the numbers from last year according to a report jointly released Monday by the Alipay platform as well as Fliggy, Alibaba's online travel service provider.

The average overseas consumption per person using Alipay hit 2,500 yuan and the average transaction of a single order was up 11 percent when compared to that in the same period of the previous year, the report said.

Other than this, Chinese citizens from Tibet, Shanxi and Guangdong all saw the highest overseas consumption on Alipay during the holiday, with growth rates of 36 percent, 22 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

130 percent more of those born after 2000 made outbound trips during the 7-day holiday this year, the highest among all age groups, while a 30-percent growth rate was experienced involving those born before 1960.

With the rapid expansion of mobile payment systems, the number of mobile payment transactions made by Chinese tourists at overseas destinations is experiencing a huge increase. Furthermore, the report said that the numbers of transactions made by Chinese tourists on Alipay increased 63, 25 and 15 times respectively in Portugal, the Philippines and Maldives.

According to the report, over 300,000 merchants in 55 countries and regions offered exclusive discounts on Alipay during the Chinese National Day holiday.
